Tip 67.  'Argumentacja'.

Which option is not in good English?

In the event of a dispute, between the Tenant and the Landlord, ...................... that the Landlord is not entitled to terminate the Lease without more specific grounds.

A. it could be reasonably argued

Wrong answer, try again!

B. a reasonable argumentation could be raised

Correct answer!

Option A is typical legal language. However, because it uses the passive voice, it is also abstract.

Option B: a direct translation from Polish. In English 'argumentation' is an abstract noun – in situations such as this, it's clearer and simpler to use the verb 'argue'. If you have to use a noun, use 'argument'.

Option C: clear and simple language is (almost) always best.

C. the Tenant could reasonably argue
