The word 'judgment' describes the final decision of a court. Colloquially, judgments are often described as 'rulings' and 'decisions'. Rulings are described in many dictionaries as 'authoritative decisions' of a court or other official body.

'Sentence' is generally reserved to describe i) the punishment chosen for a person who has been found guilty of a crime, or ii) the decision describing that punishment.

Expressions with 'sentence': 'a prison sentence', 'a custodial sentence', 'the death sentence', 'a five-year prison sentence', 'a suspended prison sentence'.

Verb: to sentence

E.g. "The director was sentenced to twelve months in prison for breaches of health and safety legislation which resulted in the death of an employee."
