Tip 4.  Three months' / three month's / three-month?

Which option completes the sentence correctly?

Within three days of signing the lease, the tenant must pay .................... in advance.

A. a three-month rent

Wrong answer, try again!

B. three month's rent

Wrong answer, try again!

C. three months' rent

Correct answer!

Comment:

Here we use the plural of the Saxon genitive (e.g. one month's rent; two months' rent). Option B is therefore wrong.

Option A is incorrect because 'rent' is uncountable (you pay rent monthly or on a monthly basis, but you don't pay twelve rents). 'A deposit of three months' rent' would also be possible here.
